R. afghanicum
Price: No Price

A low and mounding evergreen shrub with smooth elliptic leaves up to three inches long.  These are typically an olive or pale green in color and have scales beneath.  The bell-shaped white flowers (early to mid-summer) are not particularly showy, but are interesting and appear in a very unusual elongated inflorescence.  This rare species requires excellent drainage and light shade or morning sun for best results.  Native to a small area in the extreme western end of the Himalaya Mountains where it is found in montane forests along the E Afghanistan/Pakistan border.  It occurs from 7,000 to 10,000 ft. on rocks and cliffs.

1980/083  WEN#9706:RBGE  (0\R3\2).  A very rare species in cultivation that is unlikely to be re-introduced any time soon as it is native to a politically volatile area.
