arboreum ssp. cinnamomeum

Differs from ssp. arboreum in the attractive rusty brown indumentum on the undersides of the leaves.  The flowers (mid- to late spring) are white, pink, carmine or red.  Found at higher elevations than ssp. arboreum and thus generally hardier.  Native to open forests and rocky slopes from 9,000 to 11,500 ft. in E Nepal and NE India (Bengal and Sikkim)

1964/188  Rowallane  (+5).  Another selection of this vigorous species, the rust-brown, less smoothly textured indumentum suggesting its sub-specific name, with flowers in this clone of a clear pink shade, more intense toward the edges.
