Gift Shop & Program Administrator (30 hrs./week)

 

Job Description

The Rhododendron Species Foundation & Botanical Garden is seeking an energetic person to support its program services and initiatives.  The Gift Shop & Program Administrator will be responsible for supporting our membership and volunteer programs, as well as supervising the Gift Shop.  The Administrator will perform a variety of support services, including retail sales and merchandising, as well as event, membership and volunteer support.  Other duties as assigned.

 

This is a part-time, hourly position with NO benefits.  This position works approximately 30 hours/ week, Saturday – Wednesday and reports to the Assistant Director. Salary range $10.00 - $12.00 per hour.  Schedule TBD, but generally 11:00am - 4:00pm, Saturday - Wednesday.

Key Responsibilities:

 

Gift Shop -

  • Answering phones and greeting visitors; opening and closing shop at specified hours
  • Managing daily operations of the gift shop; processing payments for admissions and purchases
  • Supporting Garden events
  • Supervising gift shop staff and volunteers
  • Buying and stocking merchandise; managing inventory

 

Membership –

  • Processing membership sales/renewals
  • Communicating news and events information to membership and visitors

 

Volunteer Program -

  • Recruiting and orienting new volunteers; tracking volunteer assignments
  • Managing volunteer database (MS Access) and communicating information

 

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities -

  • Retail experience A MUST!
  • Bondable A MUST!
  • Ability to use cash register, credit card processor, calculator, and computer
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally
  • Excellent interpersonal relations, public relations and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to organize and work independently
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 30lbs.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of horticulture and plants A PLUS! 
  • Outstanding customer service: ability to provide attentive, cheerful, courteous and professional service to all customers
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Access, Word, Excel, and Outlook A MUST!

 

Minimum Qualifications -

  • Associate’s Degree
  • Minimum of 2 years retail and cashier experience
  • Customer service experience
