Paeoniamairei SEH#058This is a fantastic plant that visitors to the garden have been drooling over for years. We have finally produced enough to offer to our members. This is an herbaceous peony grown from seed that I collected in a deep ravine at 10,300 ft in southern Sichuan in 1995. It grows from one to two feet in height with dark green glossy leaves with deeply impressed veins. The stunning flowers appear in mid-spring. As a species the flowers are, of course, single and up to five inches in diameter. They are a deep rose-pink in color with a bright gold boss of stamens. One of the few peonies that thrives in shade, also tolerant of sun. One of my favorite collections. A stunning rhody companion.
