Large rounded evergreen shrubs with distinctive, beautiful foliage.  The dark glossy green leaves have deeply impressed veins on the upper surface which the underside has a thick pale to reddish brown indumentum.  The bell-shaped flowers (mid-spring) are white to pink with red flecks and a crimson blotch.  An easily grown and superb foliage plant.  Native to W Sichuan, China where it occurs in forests and on rocky slopes and cliffs from 8,000 to 11,000 ft.
