virgatum ssp. oleifolium

 

Shrubs to 5 ft.  Flowers (March-May) are white or pink.  A subspecies with smaller, paler flowers that tolerates a warm, dry site.  Found ion open scrubby sites from 6,500 to 13,000 ft.

Low mounding evergreen shrubs with small lanceolate leaves.  The funnel-shaped flowers are white to deep pink in mid-spring.  A rarely offered but floriferous and drought tolerant species for sun or shade.  Known to bloom as a one-year plant.  Quite common in the eastern Himalayas where it occurs from 8,000 to 12,500 ft. in various habitats.
