Large evergreen shrubs or small trees with completely smooth, glossy green leaves. The new growth is a spectacular purple-red and the upper surface of the older leaves is a shiny metallic silver-gray.The long tubular flowers have widely flared lobes and long exserted stamens. They are white to pink in color, often scented and sometimes with an orange or yellow blotch.Should be fairly heat tolerant.Native to NE Upper Burma and China (Yunnan, Sichuan and Anhu) where it occurs in mixed forest from 1,200 to 9,000 ft.
Lost number(0\R1\4).This is one of the few members in the genus of that strange group known as Section Choniastrum. This species has very smooth and glossy foliage with very narrowly tubular funnel-shaped white flowers in late spring or early summer. The flowers have a deep yellow blotch and are quite distinct.Usually to considered to be tender but we have many large plants of several assessions in the garden. These are cuttings from one of those plants. Rarely offered, heat tolerant species.
