Densely-branched  evergreen shrubs.  The attractive flowers (mid- to late spring) are pink to rose or white, often with a basal blotch.  A variable and often highly praised species common and widespread in the wild.  Native to China (NW Yunnan, SW Sichuan and SE Tibet) where it occurs in a wide variety of habitats from 9,000 to 14,500 ft.

 

1976/312  ACB  (0).  A medium sized shrub in the Thomsonii series from China.

 

1981/023  (exbeima)  F#16684:CL  (0).  A Forrest collection from his 1917-19 expedition.  Forms a medium sized shrub to 9 ft.

Shrubs to 12 ft.  Flowers (early to late spring) are white to white flushed rose or rose.  A variable and widespread species.  Native to China (NW Yunnan, SW Sichuan and SE Xizang) where it is a common species in various habitats from 11,000 to 13,000 ft.

Large evergreen shrubs or small trees with bristly-glandular branchlets.  The smallish rounded to elliptic leaves are glaucous on the lower surface.  The attractive bell-shaped flowers (mid-spring) are typically pink.  This is a rarely grown species with fine foliage and flowers.  Best in light shade or a woodland setting and requires excellent drainage.  Found only on the Cang Shan of W Yunnan where it occurs from 10,000 to 12,000 ft.

Shrubs, 2 to 9 ft.  Flowers (April-May) are pink to rose, occasionally white to pale yellow, may be blotched.  Found on rocky alpine pastures by streams at 11,000 to 14,500 ft.  China.

 

1965/296  Glenarn  (0).  Neat in habit and rounded foliage with open trusses of white blossoms in early spring.

Shrubs, 5 to 10 ft.  Flowers (March) creamy white with red-colored flecks.  Possibly a natural hybrid between R. selense ssp. selense and R. bainbridgeanum.  Found in thickets and woodlands of pine from 12,000 to 13,000 ft. in China (NW Yunnan and SE Xizang).
