Rounded evergreen shrubs with extremely narrow leaves several inches in length but typically less than one inch in width.The foliage is similar to that of the closely related R. degronianum ssp. yakushimanum (except in shape) but emerges much later in the season.The pink to white flowers appear in early summer about a month later than those of a “yak.”A distinct and ornamental plant for its shade and tolerant of limestone soils.Native to a small area of C Honshu, Japan where it grows in forests from 6000 to 2,300 ft.
