A variable evergreen shrub ranging form low and compact to upright and open growing.The stiff and lustrous dark green leaves have golden scales on their lower surface and the new growth emerges a shiny bronze purple.The small funnel Bell-shaped flowers are arranged in elongated clusters and can be white to yellow in color.Only found in central Sichuan where it occurs in thickets and on cliffs from 5,000 to 10,000 ft.
