Shrubs 3 to 15 ft. Flowers (March) are brick-red, scarlet or dusky pink. Young foliage is purplish-green. Found on open ridges, in dense thickets and fir forests at 9,500 to 12,000 ft. India (Arunachal Pradesh), NE Burma, China (SE Tibet).
