This is our first offering of this recently named native American rhododendron.  This deciduous azalea is a very rare in the wild and currently known from only several South Carolina counties where it grows on steep circumneutral bluffs.  It may be a good azalea for those areas with neutral or even slightly alkaline soils.  This species flowers after the leaves have expanded in late spring.  The highly fragrant flowers are white to white flushed pink and usually have a yellow blotch.  Seems to bloom well even in shade.  An exciting new species for sun or the woodland garden.
